What the title says, I'll make a ruff draft of what I think it is and comments to add/modify/remove certain things are welcome.
Humans have figured out how to make mechs and decided the best way to test them is to battle them against each other. After the tests mechs were released to certain individuals called pilots to test the nes weapons created for them, the battles were recorded and made public so people could see what was in the works and eventually it became a popular sport that people watched, starting the legacy era we all know. Following this Octavious(sm bad guy in campaign) found out about this and didn't want humans to evolve the technology into what his army of mechs had, so he decided to invade earth to stop us, Octavius was able to succeed in wiping out the majority of humans(and ending the legacy era), but the pilots who were battling the far superior mechs finally succeeded in killing one and salvaging the tech from it.
Once the tech was brought back to the outpost of the survivors upgrades were made and a new 3d printing technology allowed for meh to be recreated out of thin air, and also allowing for mechs the regenerate health. Soon after the pilots went out to reclaim some more of the earth and brought back new technologies. Octavious eventually found out about this and started creating new technologies(heat and energy items), after the pilots went on a supply run they encountered theses new mech which where capable of taking away their mech energy with weapons with more efficiency than before and mech that could overload the mech heat threshold to the point that the pilots would pass out, after this fierce battle the pilots won and where able to gain these new technologies using them to their advantage, the only problem was that only on mech remained usable and only one pilot could use their mech properly. Once the new tech was brought back the mechs received the ability to regenerate their energy and cool down their mech, but after that supply run only one pilot was able to use their mech, so the mechs were made to have a feature to be piloted automatically and piloted remotely(start of reloaded).
After that the only thing that changed was the efficiency and damage of weapons, and that's it so far(current day sm)...   

No because this would ruin the point of energy. If this existed, people would just have super high regen but low cap and just spam this button when they're drained, allowing them to use their weapons and reduce the damage of energy weapons because they're not drained. And energy weapons usually have the lowest damage out of all elements, so this button would basically kill energy, especially drainers. This works for heat because heat weapons usually do more damage than energy, and heat is all about shutting opponents down while energy is about crippling them than dealing heavy damage to them when drained. Plus when you're drained you can still do something. When you're shutdown you can't. Energy should never be compared to heat as they are completely different, albeit with some superficial similarities.

I have an idea for a new mode of play in this game that would require a complete change of tactics and build.
So far, arena favors mass damage because you have one chance to beat your enemy.
RAID favors single use heat bombs to be able to overpower your enemies.
Campaigns, as they are now, favor resistance and limited use items because you get your uses back with each enemy.
What about survival mode?
Basically this mode would be like a campaign mission but it would be one mech on a 3x3 square.
When you beat the first mech (think 1v1 first mission on normal), it immediately spawns another in-game.
The enemies get harder as you go.
Your rewards are based off of how many waves of enemies you successfully kill.
This would be different because mechs with limited use items would die quickly once they run out of shots.
It might even be best for F2Ps because lots of non-premium items are unlimited use.
It would require a different kind of mech build than the arena or raid.
So say I defeat 10 enemies, my rewards are based off that.  One can play survival mode once a day.
This would provide another source of game reward.  You wouldn't be competing against other people, really, but against yourself, seeing how many waves you can beat.
With this also comes the "best survival mode score of the week" where the player with the highest number of waves that week would get honorable mention and a specific reward.

Or in my opinion give people the option to run what kind of battles they want, like why do you people above rank 5 have to run certain battles? I still think the old way was better, if you want to do 1v1 only, you can, if you want to do 2v2 only, go ahead, but I also agree you shouldn't be able to change the layout, make it set if you're doing 2v2, the first two mechs are what get used.

As for everyone who doesn't know what I'm going on about, today (it's 12:07 as I'm writing this, so it's Friday in my timezone) is Atusiff's birthday... And if you don't know who they are, Atusiff's a forum goer and an obvious SM pilot like everyone else here (whether they're still in service or retired is unknown in my regard, so don't ask me about that). I honestly don't know much else about them... So... Yeah... Wish them a happy birthday the next time you come across them, yeah?
