Upcoming Balance Changes

Hi Pilots,

 

Even in the holidays we'll be hard at work fixing problems and cheating but there's also something else in the closet - balance. 

We'd like to start doing semi-regular (at first we'll ramp it up to once per 2 weeks or so, we'll slow it down again over time as the game gets more balanced) balance changes to both, improve the game balance and keep the meta from getting stale, with the first being the sole priority for the next few months when it comes to balance.

For this reason we're recruiting a balancing team to help advice us on potential changes through discussion in addition to the new "Balance Changes" suggestions category to help give us a more broad idea.

For december (with our internal deadline at january 3) we hope to balance roughly 5-10 items, we prefer buffs over nerfs but obviously both options are in the card based on need.

Bruh, f2ps were still doing fine with physical mechs before frantic brute. Don't act like frantic brute is the only f2p physical weapon. Rock recoiler, nightfall and night eagle are still very viable options.

But if we don't nerf it,we harm the entire playerbase,including F2P,P2W and the sorts.

Also,is Spartan really the only option?We have Mighty Cannon,Rock Recoiler,NightFall,Sacrifice Cannon and especially Malfunctioning Blaster that's essentially a side Spartan with half the weight and energy-free.

This is an example of a low-key,budget-meta phys.And you know why some would say it's weak?Because it's fair and balanced.Because it doesn't hit 800 and kill anything in 2 turns.

In truth,the build above is a direct downgrade from a Dual Spartan.If it had 2 Malf. Blasters,it'd be essentially a backfire,energy-free Dual Spartan.

And,in fact,Spartan doesn't even compare to Frantic.Dual Spartans die to Dual Frantics more often that you'd think;anything does actually.

With all due respect, there seems to be a bit of a difference between Frantic Brute and Unrepaired Laser Cannon in terms of average damage.  I calculate this using ((min damage + max damage) / 2 ) - backfire. 

Wouldn't you need to make backfire zero to put Unrepaired Laser Cannon on equal footing in terms of damage?  Granted, unlike Frantic, it's got unlimited uses....

Just asking because I'm new.

I didn't say anything about Unrepaired Laser Cannon 😆 

I did say that thing about the Malfunctioning Blaster though...And also,calculating the damage dealt by substracting the backfire makes no sense.With or without the backfire,the weapon will inflict an amount to your opponent.Backfire does not affect how much your enemy takes and it only affects you;thus is irrelevant in this case.It's okay,we get it that you're new and we'll be patient,as others were patient with us too during our time.

But still...It at least it has a (somewhat) 50-50 chance between avg-high or avg-low hits.If you like maths,try to compare that avg damage and make the chances of Frantic Brute's hits...That's where the sad truth starts to unravel,since it has such a damage limit that it even biases the odds.

Also,we all got it already.You support Frantic;that's okay.We understand.

And then I never mentioned URC as being a very viable weapon.If anything;it's underpowered and situational.

Hey I had an idea last night that I wanted to ask you all about.

How about we make the Frantic Brute identical in stats to the Spartan Carnage except with 2 shots (like it currently is) rather than 3?  Basically make the Frantic Brute a Spartan Carnage "Lite"?

Would that fix the issue?

(Then the frantic lightning and frantic flame could be made more or less equivalent to what a heat-based or energy-based Spartan would be like, etc.)

Do you think that would work with meta and such?

As much as I think this forum is more organized (which is important as to not mess the threads up) and looks cool, I believe the process of creating and editing post is inherently broken.

I can't comment on exactly what that is broken, however. But I can tell that this forum work better if you have a large screen (that displays more content; a XL iPad does not bring any improvement), like a laptop.

Sir,that would effectively and efficiently solve the problem,along with an addition of something juicy to the game.

That isn't only balanced;that's genius and plainly beautiful.But I can already see some arguments as to why it shouldn't be a thing...

Honestly my only complaint about that is that most of the time in low ranks you won't even need all three shots. maybe 2 shot spartan with 50-100 less damage.

Making an extra Spartan but epic and removing 1 shot from it is already pretty well balanced and neat.Pretty much not budget Spartan,as that's NightFall,but rather ''More accessible but also more limited in the same time'' Spartan;if you lower the damage,then it becomes highly underpowered.

Otherwise nothing can justify the damage lowering.

Well ... nothing for now.

In principle, it seems good to me that what already exists is rebalanced and not that new things are added, although I always missed a rolling heat E-M or L-M that advances 3 places. Perhaps it´s the only thing I would add to a very cluttered inventory of items.
