honestly, paints should be reduced in cost, most of the low ones are fine, but if all others were halved in cost, i might consider getting some storm paint, cuz that looks FIRE

No, it would ust be confusing when picking mechs for 2v2 or 3v3.

Black actually used to be in the item shop a long time ago, but I think it was removed to differentiate between the actual maxed items and the people just throwing it on.

I don't think it's confusing, personally, if a mech is black or not.  The campaign bosses are painted black.

But I never really realized that there's no black paint in the shop either, so maybe I was blind (metaphorically) to the impact of black paint.

Still, I've also beaten many people with black mechs, so I kind of wonder if it makes a difference in matchmaking or not if it doesn't seem to have affected me.

It shouldn't have any impact on matchmaking. The black paint that comes with maxing an item is just to show you have the item maxed, it's always been that way, even before they removed black paint, your item would turn black at max level.
