For the physical mech, zark (zarkares) already have some res so the plate can stay there. 
for the heat mech, most of the time, having the 10-14 res from the legs will be enough as long as you have a decent amount of hp. swapping the iron plate there for are saviors res is not worth it because: 
it'll make the mech overweight to the point where you can't use it (because the game won't let use mechs that are over by 10kg).  it's not necessary. having res is only helpful when you have a lot. like 50+ is decent. 120 or so is a good number for higher ranking arena.

my best is R9 with 3 stars, but my drop rates are shet no matter where i am, (and i somehow ALWAYS get but back to r10 by energy mechs) so i just do my daily battles and try to get something :V
