I'll try to make this simple enough for you to understand:
You're necroposting/necro-replying, so I reported this, along with your toxicity. I proved that 40 was enough.  I am trained at the masters degree level on how to conduct proper research.   I proved everyone wrong the last time and this time.  Notice that the percentage of change in results was well within scientific accuracy levels that demand 5% (at least).  Please refrain from replying on things you don't have formal training on and/or do not understand. You don't know anything for a fact when it comes to this specific topic because you have not posted your own research.  That's why I conducted research: I wanted to know the drop rates.  But I used several people to research it together because just using my own luck would make this research ineffective.  Again, proper research methods. You just got done being owned on the META topic because you don't know what you're talking about.  Please change your methods and habits so that you stop putting your foot in your mouth. I'll go back to ignoring you.
But  to the moderators, I ask: please change how it works so that when I block someone, it doesn't show that they even exist or reply to topics.
Because it's this type of behavior that makes me reluctant to even come on here due to the high levels of toxicity and the low signal-to-noise ratio.

BLUF: We ran the fortune box research out to 120 boxes from the previous 40 (see previous study) and found that chance of rare is 63.0%, common 5.3%, Legendary 3.7%, and Epic 28.0%.  The difference in calculated legendary rate increased 0.3%, meaning there was no significant (i.e. 5% being the cut-off) difference from the last study.  (Ignore the 60.5)

    LONG STORY:
First, thanks to everyone who helped me out: @dirtycarot @epicspeedster@Fordekash Zbey Kse, @ZeRo_ @Sleckmo @diego brando  @GGoT
So I ran this study out to 120 (was aiming for 100) because people didn't believe me when I said there was no significant difference between 40 and 100+.  So here you go: here's proof there's no significant difference.  If you really base your arena shop upgrades on whether the legendary rate is 3.3% vs 3.7% then you might need to seek professional help 😄 😛
I tried to make the colors in the chart match the game's color coding, but I was not able to edit them individually (gotta love Excel).  If you want to pay me to buy a student copy of IBM SPSS, so that the colors match, please let me know.
The findings remain the same: for most people, it will not be advantageous to upgrade your fortune box rate in the arena shop if you want more legendaries: not until you upgrade the other important things like damage, capacities, hit points, resistance, backfire reduction, etc.
However, I will also say that while the fortune box might as well be called the "Blue Box" because of rares being the majority (63%), I will say that this is at least reasonably generous of the game to give you legendaries.  And in this data, one of our members got a Bright Roar.  Another got an Energy Monkey torso.  I got an MPV from a fortune box once (but not while this study was going on).
There are some limitations to this study, though, as always:
It appears the game bases your rates off of the code but using a RNG call to your host machine.  Therefore, if you happen to somehow be on a computer that has a broken RNG, you could get potentially higher rates or lower rates than these. To help you understand the measure of significance: it's mostly agreed upon by Statisticians that 1% is the level of significance required for difference to be important, but only if you are doing things within the hard sciences.  For example, if we were manufacturing gun barrels and machine A's differences in finished product width was a 1% spread versus machine B was a 0.1% spread, this would be cause for concern because we might accidentally manufacture barrels that are out of specifications and thus cause accuracy problems on machine A, but machine B would be better for our needs.  For things that use probability and normal curves (human behavior experiments, things based in chance), the measure is 5%.  So if there had been a 5% difference between study A and study B, we would conclude that 40 is not enough data points.  However, what we see is 0.3%, which is less than both a strict hard-science 1% margin and a more soft-science psychology and probability 5%.  Therefore our data is very reliable. More data points will only make the rates more accurate, but should not (as we have demonstrated) change your conclusions. There appears to be no difference in who was providing the screenshots in terms of player rank.  There also seemed to be no difference in whether the fortune box was from the shop or from farming the campaigns.  Thus I believe it is safe to conclude that these stats apply to all fortune boxes.  But if you have a good reason to believe shop versus campaign is different, please let me know. Keep in mind some times when you complete parts of the campaign, the fortune box animation is given, even though normally the resulting rewards are fixed.  It is unclear yet if there are times when completing the campaign will result in a higher drop rate for special circumstances.  However, we were not calculating fortune boxes for special circumstances (because that would take way too long). The rates are PER ITEM IN THE BOX, not the entire box.  This is because the items in the box are not always identical.  You can sometimes get a box result (as we have shown in the pictures, which is available upon request) where you get one epic and one common.  It just happens.  Because fortune boxes seem to be "per item" chances, but seem to light up the light on the animation based on the highest rarity of item you receive (i.e. lights "legendary" when you get only one legendary, etc.), I thought this would be a more logical and simple way to run the numbers.  Your mileage may vary. By the way, as soon as I finished, my alt got this in a fortune box

Then go to the FAQ and request to apply to work for SuperMechs or something.
And Gato Games hasn't even owned SM for 4 months and in that time they've already put out a new item: the Defense Matrix.
Much less you forget the stuff in February that TactiSoft (previous owner) made, like all the backfire, non-premium resistance drainers.  It was like a new one of those every freaking week from January through February.
With all due respect, this is confirmation bias.  I've been accused of having a HORRIBLE memory and even I can remember these deals?  I wasn't even in the single digits arena ranks yet.  I wasn't on the balance team yet.  But I can remember those.
With all due respect, if you think this game is dying, I have strong doubts about your memory.

    I don't buy that.
We recently got a new item (defense matrix).
Another new item is in the works.
An energy balance is being worked on.
And I've heard Alex say he's trying to get new staff.
    Yeah, "nothing interesting."
What did you expect from SM, Elder Scrolls Online?  That game cost (until recently) $15/month.  I'm not saying SM sucks.  I'm saying it was never meant to be a huge universe with endless areas to explore and thousands of NPCs.
The game isn't dying.  I'm on the balance team.  We've been working on stuff.

I tend to get ENTJ (commander) and ENTP (debater).
But I've taken the official MBTI test through college and I'm trained on personality tests.
The MBTI is nice but it's not 100% perfect/scientific.
See also the Big Five test.
Also, the fewer questions on an online test, usually (but not always) the less accurate it will be.

Between you and @Frero I think we can discuss this politely (like we're already doing).  If you don't mind me philosophizing as a rank 2 player:
This is an RNG game so no matter how much inventory you have and how upgraded, you can have bad RNG days.  So I think it's more important in general to provide builds that top 10 players have used to get to the top 10.  We can all quibble about modules and how we would do things, and that's fine.  But I think the standard should be whether you've made it to top 10 with the build. We cannot all be CleverName.  Hence I say we cut ZeRo some slack because he doesn't have mountains of ascension relics.  He has made it legitimately (without boosting) to the top player slot in the game, and is consistently rank 1, if not in the top 10.  He's been playing this game a very long time.  In an RNG game, we compensate for the RNG by maxing out our weapons to divine as much as we can, etc. Anything we build and test in WU is max/divine, hence to a point the only way to know is to do real world in-game testing.  But since the game is RNG-based, that testing is not 100% scientific/mathematical, in the sense that you don't always get the average, nor the max or min, damage from things.  So this isn't 2+2=4, this is more like a bunch of RNG calls done by the SM server to calculate how much of a smack-down you put on people.  So, therefore, I suggest: The META is a philosophy more than a math or a science.  It should, in my opinion, be a list of mechs that have made it into the top 10 player list in 1v1 (only because CleverName's list was usually more 1v1 based).  I want to add 3v3 and add LG's builds because his 3v3 heat teams are legendary.  I have them already in pictures. And I watched ZeRo and Rambo do a TON of research and consult with MANY top 10 and rank 1 players to give us this product.  Maybe it's not perfect, but it's impossible (due to RNG) for the META listing to be 100% perfect.  And even with CleverName's listing, there were always people who said he was wrong, said he could do things better, or even said they could put out a better listing.  (Most notably LG, who says that now to ZeRo, and said that to CleverName, etc.)
So while I do admit that I may have been wrong to vent on that n00b, I think in this case I asked the n00b to stop and they didn't, so I had it out, but that's not because ZeRo is my boyfriend or something.  I'm not simping.  Instead, it's because I watched him do tons of work (and Rambo).  And I don't like it when some butthole (whoever I blocked, forgot them) poops on something that someone is doing to help the community.  Yes, I am censoring myself: I have to remember this is a 13+ yr old forum (last I checked) and that last time I went full military insult mode I got banned.  (it wasn't in here)

Because in this game, focusing your time and resources in items that matter in terms of META can help people get to top ranks faster. It already takes a very long time as is.
META provides a service to the community.
I had created a middle ranks "meta" read in the past. You can search it and find it. Lots of good non-premium builds that can give some premium builds a run for their money.
And just minutes ago you were saying your ugly horrible build needs to be on the meta, hence you essentially asked for another listing. Please make up your mind and (again) close your legs.

It's not.  Physical jumper has fallen out of favor (as configured by him), per rank 1 players I'm speaking with.
I have edited the topic and meta listing to reflect 2021.

It is my honor to post this on behalf of @ZeRo_ and @Rambo Gaming YT.  This is the META listing for 2021.  They have had multiple high rank players weigh in and assist them, such as @Mechzilla and @Malthael.  I have complete confidence that this listing is equal to or exceeds the quality put forth formerly by CleverName.  Noble Warriors Clan was glad to provide a little assistance, and I was glad to see Reign Forever and Reign Reforged also lend their aid.  This listing is legit.

EDIT: this is technically a rough draft, I am being told.

Also, note that @PaintedAshwithSnow and @TaediumVitae helped with the listing.  I forgot to mention them.
