please forgive if this is a newbie question but i am syill new to this game what do ascension kits do and what are they for

Ascension relics give a 5-7% boost in the stats of an item that can be increased without transformation (e. g. torsos: heat cap, en cap, and hp, not resistance, cooling, and regen). It’s not a lot, but it adds up.

As for the technical bit, relics have rarities just like normal items, and these correspond to the normal items they can be used to transform. For example, Nightmare starts at common and uses common relics whereas Molten Platinum Vest starts at legendary and uses legendary relics. The cost of ascension also scales with rarity as follows: Common - 2 relics + 100k, Rare - 3 relics + 200k, Epic - 4 relics + 500k, Legendary - 5 relics + 1M.

Someone left out the bit where you can 'divine' an item that is mythic level 50
