”We’re currently investigating a downtime of the game, there seems to be a hardware issue somewhere in our network and we’re working with our partner to figure out the specifics. This downtime can take anywhere between 10 minutes and 12 hours depending on the issue, we’ll update you once we know more.”

In the event of a long downtime, the portal may be extended accordingly.

As of now, the downtime issue has been solved, though their might be a little bit more of it while the root of the problem is addressed.

EDIT: it looks like there still might be server issues for some people
