EMP isn't even that broken anymore.

So you're saying that...it shouldn't be nerfed because it's not used anymore...?

Look, I stopped using EMP after my first month of playing SM.  For the first month, sure, I ran around doing the charge + EMP combo on people.  But as I gained rank, people gained energy capacity, and it became ineffective, so I stopped using it.

That doesn't mean EMP needs to be nerfed or buffed.  It simply means people decided to use a different method of draining people.  (I say this mainly to L4K3) Please check the META thread CleverName so kindly made for us.  Dual valiant is more the rage.  These decisions people make are done through experience, not simply because a weapon is ineffective.  EMP is effective, but just not so much for the higher ranks.  And there's also energy-free builds (like the EFA torso one I'm drooling over).  I think it's that EMP is not ovepowered, and/or the end-all uber-bomb, is why you don't see it in upper ranks, not because it's ineffective.

There's still someone at level 10/11 arena going around EMPing people.  Sometimes he beats me.  Sometimes he doesn't.

My personal choice was that EMP is too heavy AND one use to justify it.  I can build up my regen and capacity to the point that I can withstand one divine EMP and one divine Hysteria.  And that's about all anyone is going to run around with because using a 70 kg EMP PLUS all the other weapons you'd need to be viable in the arena at higher ranks is simply not possible.

I can't speak for arena ranks 1-5 but I can look at the meta and guess that this is why.

Or you could go over to the META thread and ask CleverName to explain why it isn't used at upper ranks.

My guess is all the weight used in modules to get 3-4K HP sort of detracts from it being used.

@SawzAll forward  this list to Alexander ... Those torsos buff is a must !
In general I am saving some good hopes for the balance changes ...Alex havent bring out something yet ...means he is doing a serius work ...BUT time will saw ...

Alexander sees things on here.  I'll let him make the decision.  I think forwarding it to him might be a bit too pushy.

  3. The only item I can agree to nerfing is the frantic weapon family.  They should all be more or less like two shot Spartan Carnage weapons (thus, Spartan Carnage stays premium).  No other weapons or items should be nerfed in my opinion.  Nerfing is far too unpopular to consider doing it across the board.

    I adressed buffing torsos here:

I would agree that all weapons and drones should require at least 5 energy to operate.  However, that would require nerfing many items, so I am against that.

I would be willing to entertain buffing energy items, but only enough to be competitive.  This is harder to do, as you can't just arbitrarily give them all +5% on all stats.  Gato Games would need to create a SM test server (separate from the SM main server) and get some people to test this out.  If we buff energy items too much, they will become the main META.  That's not what we want.  We want all elemental concepts (physical, heat, energy) to be more or less equal.

But the amount we need to buff energy has decreased because now there is a top 10 arena player who runs energy.  Please see the META thread:

Bruh, it's a common weapon. You can get a better weapon from a silverbox. No one cares about common items unless they can transform into divine.

100% agree.  All top items that can upgrade to divine are easily better to the rocket launcher and its common tier cousins.  With all due respect, no, don't buff rocket launcher.  You want a rocket launcher?  Get a delerium, iron frenzy, spartan, etc. get basically anything but rocket launcher.  Same for rapid destruction: no buff, get something else.  When I see someone with a rapid destruction in the arena, I laugh, and I win.

  5. I would say the F2P boiler config is best at this point.  However, see the thread below for your LONG TERM goals.  So for short term, the F2P combo of Savagery, Corrupt Light, and Magma Recoiler is probably best.  I also prefer, in the lower ranks and in the campaigns, to have the Flaming Hammer.  Flaminator might be nice instead of Corrupt Light BUT it requires that you have quite a bit of energy capacity and regeneration because it takes 110 energy a shot.  Therefore, I cannot recommend it at the lower ranks.

Try to get your heat capacity and energy capacity to 500 and your regeneration and cooling to 300.  As a heat mech, battles are decided on a couple of factors.  First, how fast you can fire your weapons to overheat your opponent and second how much heat you can survive against another heat mech.  You're racing to overheat other people before they either destroy your hit points (physical), your energy (energy), or overheat you (heat).  I recommend maybe 3 heat engines, 2 energy engines, 1 mass cool booster, and 1 mass regen booster.  Then for the arena, one iron plating, or for the campaign, one savior resistance.  Upgrade your engines and mass boosters to at least the same level as your weapons, but upgrade your weapons first.  For example, first weapons to level 1 legendary, then modules to level 1 legendary, then weapons to level 40 legendary, etc.

My mech is fractured heat armor, massive lava legs, savagery, corrupt light, and (now) Magma Recoiler and Firefly.  I've always had my Flaming Hammer but I am looking to swap it with a Terror Blade when I get one.  This configuration got me into rank 9 (I average rank 11).  I also beat the 1V1 campaign on insane with this configuration.

This link below is long term.  In my opinion, only those items you see below deserve to be upgraded all the way to Divine, if that's your eventual goal is to be rank 1-5.  If you don't have that goal, the F2P items such as savagery, hysteria, corrupt light, malice beam, etc, work fine together.  For example, I stopped upgrading my Flaming Hammer, Savagery, and Corrupt Light (they're about level 30-35 mythical) and I'm focusing on my Firefly.  But of course I'm upgrading multiple things at once.

Here's a picture of my current heat mech (configured for CAMPAIGN, not the arena).  For the arena, I have a lot more heat capacity and cooling.

    what has to change?

My arena rank. I'm trying to start migrating to meta. I don't have enough of the pieces yet, but I'm trying.

Like replacing my mythical flaming hammer with a magma recoiler. And upgrading my energy free armor and basalt dissolvers.

I tend to move things early, which results in a dip in my arena rank.

  7. How do you counter energy huggers on 2V2 campaign Danger Zone boss (#11)?  I'm trying my best to do energy-free heat to counter the energy flamethrower guys, and putting repulsors on my heat mech, etc, but I can't seem to successfully get them off of me, even by using a different "team" config where I max the heat mech's energy cap/regen out.

We need to nullify the advantages of using multiple accounts

At my level, I haven't seen any advantages yet.  But sure, I'm not a high ranking player yet.

Given the prevalence of TPM in computer and phone design, I tentatively, cautiously, recommend the PC software and the app read the TPM ID.  That way, even if someone is using a proxy, the machine code that's using it can be read and compared.  That way certain behavior (if there is some alt account trickery going on) can be minimized, if Gato Games wants to do something about it.

I think this is a conversation where, philosophically, Gato Games will have to decide what they want to do.  Alt account detection could become a "cat and mouse" game where proxy use and TPM ID masking could go back and forth.  This could go on forever.  It's up to Gato Games to decide what level they want to take it, what level is productive and what is not.

I would recommend that it's not a "yes or no" situation.  I would say instead that those who are using alt accounts to the benefit of Gato Games should be allowed to continue doing so, even being "validated" as being good players over time.  Then if they are good players and aren't using their alt to tamper with arena stats or whatever they're doing, be given the privilege to move items back and forth.  Because, again, there are multiple valid meta if you look at the top 10.  I personally would have one account with a truly energy-free config, then my current config that will eventually become dual valiant energy, heat hugger, and CleverJumper physical.  My alt account would have an energy free.  I can't think of any current meta right now but my alt would have some of them.

And if they would move towards giving me, someone who doesn't hack or arena tamper, the right to move items in between, I'd subscribe both accounts to the $5/month thing.

I think the alt account thing, whether good or bad, is more based on the person doing it and what they use it for than the concept itself.  I can't say the concept of alt accounts is good or bad, so banning them all I think is bad.  But I can see some people using them for bad, so I think it's the player being evil, not that alt accounts are themselves evil.

And in fact, I think rusty and fractured should be NERFED back down to the hollow spectral armor's values bc they weigh the same; they have the same rarity so nerfing them don't make them worse cash carrots

I don't agree.  I think nerfs are very unpopular because they tend to make people lose their hard work.  And I think it's very logical that people would be unhappy about that.

That's why I think the best solution is to balance things by buffing other things, and only buffing things conservatively.  I don't want to accidentally make a torso more powerful than the torsos that already dominate things.  I just want to make them more viable options.

You'll note that I was conservative in that I only made statistically equal to energy-free armor (EFA) statistically at least.  There's someone playing an EFA in the top 10.

Ok I died. The only reason is because it's a myth hybrid and mine is a legy flaminator.

And also I found funny: his hp is solely from the better leg and torso. he is also using one plate like I am, but no res

what a garbage build (only 111 cooling!). looks intimidating, much to the size of Brutality I guess.

I'm at an arena rank where NOT having about every item at mythical status results in losing.  Right now I'm working up a magma recoiler and firefly drone, and they're legendary.  So far it hasn't hurt me too much because my torso, legs, corrupt light and savagery are mythical.  And I have two mythical heat engines.  But I am working very hard to mythical the firefly and magma recoiler quickly.

I may replace my mythical flaming hammer with a chaos bringer for a short time only because hammers are heavy and I want to ultimately have a Terror Blade.  But I'm being careful because, though arena rank isn't everything, I'd rather not lose a lot, as I like to earn my daily tasks (3 wins a day).

  11. 11 minutes ago, CDR_Xavier said:

to be honest, flaminator is much more competent than hot flash because its a corrupt light but without the heat cost (and weighs less?)

I'm pretty sure corrupt light weighs less.  And Flaminator is a liability when fighting an energy mech.  There is now an energy mech player in the top 10 arena players, so I can't ignore energy on my heat mech any more.

Sure, if I knew I would fight only heat mechs, I would use Flaminator on my heat mech.  But at my arena rank, I end up fighting all kinds of people.

I would be willing to upgrade my regen much higher if I had the Hybrid Heat cannon, but to be fair it does more heat damage, which is why it would be worth it to me.

The difference in Flaminator vs Corrupt Light is more about build preference, in my opinion, as I don't see either as being very clearly superior to the other in all circumstances.

  12. 4 minutes ago, CDR_Xavier said:

If he .... well, its a eng-based heat counter. apparently one hybrid heat cannon isn't enough against a full-out energy

In my opinion there's absolutely no point to omnimechs or hybrids.  You can't excel at everything.  I see that in the arena at my rank as well as in the higher ranks.  There's basically only one omnimech player I've never beat, but it's only because they're running around with both of the "divine drainer" pairs (i.e. corrupt light + savagery and malice beam + hysteria).  By the time my weapons get to divine, I'll beat them because I am not trying to do 2 things at once.  You can't run a drone that is good for both heat and energy at the same time.  The closest to that would be Hurlbat, but if I can do more damage as only heat or energy (like firefly or railgun) then I win.

Hybrid mechs won't go all the way to rank 1 but I am not sure at which arena rank hybrids "drop off" the radar.

I think it's better to have one energy, one heat, and one physical rather than two hybrids.  But oh well.

    I'd describe it as protoscientific

First, let me say that this was probably one of the most well thought-out replies I've ever read.

Yeah, I'd describe it as close-to-scientific.  I love the MBTI, I just don't like how sometimes people who aren't knowledgeable accidentally get it wrong.

You sound like you've done scientific research on this.  Have you done this at the college level?

Currently I have a bachelors in Addiction & Recovery Psychology (minor in Counseling) and I'm getting my master's degree to become a therapist (Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling).

    4 hours ago, Fluffeh said:

I'd say the most important thing to keep in mind, especially with all of the weaknesses with the MBTI, is to not let yourself be boxed in by the label you've been given

Also a very valid point.  People usually don't realize that who you are now isn't who you will be forever.  So don't box yourself in or accidentally succumb to "Well I'm an ENTJ so I do this _____."  For example, while ENTJ might be a natural born leader, and I did good with leadership in the military, it doesn't prohibit me from refraining from leading when I'm counseling others.  It also doesn't mean I need to take the lead in everything: sometimes it's best to recognize the talents of others and let them lead.

Over time, people who experience personal growth tend to become more balanced over time, not less.

  15. Using math, I have a proposal on how much to buff torsos in order for them to continue to be competitive against the "Thanos" ("monkey") torsos.

This should, in theory, fix what appears to be an imbalance of the importance of raw hit points (like for example why almost no top ranked physical player uses Hollow Spectral).  However, this is using math and statistics, so actual further testing would need to be conducted to see if this is a good idea or would hurt the game.

Also, this may cause us to have to reconsider how these torsos work in terms of ascending to Divine.  Statistically, the new hit points are calculated in such a way that the "Thanos" torsos are not immediately outclassed.  They are still, using these stats, better on paper (i.e. the target score, which is not provided, is 6.2 rather than 6.58 for the Thanos torsos), so that hopefully this won't piss off everyone who worked so hard to max out their Thanos torso.

Please weigh in on the stats I've provided.  I'm only suggesting buffing hit points, and leaving all other stats (energy, resistance, etc) alone.

Amen.  Honestly I don't think any weapon should be energy free whatsoever because of my years working on the avionics systems of military fighter aircraft.  Even dropping a bomb takes energy: electrically-actuated explosive charges punch the bomb off the wing pylon.

But then I wouldn't be able to play energy free with my EFA torso........ 😕

Maybe, but it seems no one has subscribed to that part, so not many people reply.  But still, I don't blame you, as you're a busy person.

Can you share a cropped screen shot of your module config(s)?  If not, no worries.

yeah I farm od6 because its fast

I tend to farm 1V1 boss's lair #7, normally on hard.  In fact, that's my testing ground: if a mech is able to regularly pass this one, it's ready for the arena.  Which means my physical mech isn't ready yet 😕

Because recently I've been mostly on a huge push to mythical all my stuff, especially my modules, I've been even using tokens to increase the farming.  Like today when it's +50% gold.  My base factories have been running 24/7 for two weeks now.

Today I manually played 1V1 with my EFA.  My energy free mech is: energy free armor, massive lava feet, two epic level 1 heat bombs, a level 40 legendary Clash (I'll get rid of it as soon as I get a better drone), two vandal rages or two desolations, maybe Flaming Hammer, and then as many basalt dissolvers as I can.  It's not completely energy free but it is mostly.  It was fun playing with a new concept today.  All the items except the lava feet and flaming hammer and drone were completely brand new epic level 1 or legendary level 1.

I wouldn't put my EFA in the arena yet, but it was fun to play 1V1 campaign nonetheless.

Then I went back to farming boss's lair #7.

    I need your lights .

Given the fact that Netflix and other companies have tried repeatedly to eliminate this, and their success has never been spectacular, I don't think it's something we should ask Gato Games to spend an inordinate amount of time doing.

I say what accounts they can prove are alternate, if it messes with the game, they can choose to delete if they feel like it.  I'm sure they can handle it when it becomes a problem, and they know what they're doing.

For now I think we just ignore it.

Besides, if I only get 3 mechs, and my inventory is limited in this game (unless you're rich and buy more inventory), I don't see a single problem with someone having alternate accounts.

If anything, given the synergy of the mechs in the higher ranks when you are using three mechs of the same kind (heat energy or physical) I can totally see alternate accounts being valid.  If all your heat mechs are draining capacity, they all work together in 3v3, etc.

I can totally see myself having an alternate account in SM, though I don't have one yet.  I would make it a bunch of interesting and different builds, like energy free for example, or dual desolation, etc.

EDIT: and even if SM decides to allow my idea of gifting or trading items, alternate accounts would be even more cool.  If I make an alternate account, for example, I will subscribe BOTH of them to the $5/month token system.  Then if I'm building one account to be energy free, and my other account gets desolations or other cool weapons, i can trade or gift them to my alt energy free account where they will do good, and trade/gift the non-energy-free items over to my main account.

I just got done playing my best rendition of energy free using EFA armor on the 1V1 campaign today and I love the concept.  Don't be surprised if I create an alternate account very soon.  This would mean more money for SM.

EDIT2: If anything, SM should encourage alternate accounts (just one) and allow you to link your main account to your alternate account if you can verify your identity on both.  Like I said, it would be twice the money for SM.

And don't bother with the whole "pay to win" bull krap.  The people who made SM are programmers with bills to pay and potentially families to feed.  I think $5/month is totally valid: we pay more for Netflix.
