Not necessarily way less people, but there are waves of rank 1-2 players and then waves of rank 3-4 players. You just have to look what ranks are when online and play at the good times

Started back in late 2012/early 2013 before mythicals were introduced. Pretty much quit the game and came back once in 2015 to see what had changed. Welp, there were mythicals, got about 10 of them in an hour and left again.

Then in March 2020 I fully came back to the game to stay active. I'm still using my 2012/2013 Legacy account and am in the top3 ranks weekly.

Yes, that is 100% possible, but that would take a few years and a lot of processing power which no one would do for some small account on a game.

Accounts can't be swapped or anything the like by itself. Either an account with the same credentials was made, or the creator of the account had a password which was easy to guess.
