Is there less players in the arena?

Seems like about 300+ people are missing from the arena at the top ranks?  Or is everyone just only playing Thursday and Friday? R4 use to put me at position 450 and now it puts me at position 150. 
 

Has anyone else noticed a change in position compared to usual ranking?

the player count in the arena lobby is "per-server". there are multiple servers to reduce load on individual servers.

everyone is higher on the leaderboards than usual around the beginning of the season, it's normal

That's when most folks "push" for higher ranks, yes
