Are Shields A thing?

I've noticed there's a shield slot but I haven't got one yet is there any way to obtain one?

They are a legacy item that was removed, would either take a % of damage you took in exchange for draining your energy or adding to your heat cap

Shields aren't a thing anymore... Nice that they still kept the slot though.

In fact, resistance can basically replace shields.

In addition, if a shield appears in the current version, it must be a brand new equipment. Perhaps it's because continuing to use the old version of the shield would disrupt the game's balance? In short, the game does not allow you to bring shields into the arena.
