Normally, in the old set ups and still in some ways, physical mechs are matched with energy mechs often.
If they have high cap, normally will win if play smart.
If you refer to counter Shogun, it is a mech set to win against energy mechs in some way. It is a Battle torso, but it is bad in cooling and regeneration. It is the worse torso in that condition. Sure, it does provide energy/heat high caps. The guy it is not trolling. It is natural mech there.
Counter will be physical mech or heat mech any because low shield and low recovery regardless high caps.
I do not have the energy maxed, but it does work in the other direction of flame. As you can see, the energy and heat are very high maxed and when you add few regular dual modules, that move up very high but does not mean will be able to recover the loss but can provide some time attacking you until can't recover
In case of your torso caps are lower but can recover faster to attack more and have more HP. The weight it is identical. with vest.
The bomb that you have can help a lot to drain him, but you are lacking too on modules to use the bomb because you need to max them and if use the bomb, it will drain you too enough and can affect your attack or be attacked.

yes. R10 it is a natural bottle neck even during my time. In R10, normally by default every player is maxed but with modules difficulties to cross that portal. If cross, it will match you with R8 mechs and those are tuff that compete with R7-R6 that we can say those are close or are already top mechs that can be in R5 as base.
I think I am somewhat permanently stuck at the door of rank 10
Everytime I get like 2 stars at rank 11 this game just simply matches some rank 9 for me
and those 'rank 10 or rank 9' are always something terrible like

I don't think they belong to rank 9 and I think I was permanently losing any chance to get to rank 10

For ranks above 10. now ppl are all getting lotta premium weapons so it's rly hard to go up further if all sets are still start at epic
From my own experience ppl at rank 10 may already start having top builds like divide dual spartan
Yea rank 10 is a very harsh 'gate' where numerous pros and even smurfs choose to stay instead of going up
