With all due respect,  I made rank 7 with no premium modules in any of my mechs, and a Nightmare as my lead mech's torso.     Of course, if you are lucky enough to get X, Y or Z top notch item drop for you, that's what you're going to work with.  But this a guy at rank 20 wanting to get some progress with what he can get.   
TLDR -   You might want to think about moderating that de haut en bas tone. 

If you're rank 20, go for Nightmare as your torso, and max it.  It's a very decent torso, and you can max it pretty quickly - it's light so you have weight to stack up some heat modules.  It should drop from mix boxes as a common or rare.  Or if you're building a pure energy mech, go for Naga if it drops for you.  

What Stefix said.  You'll manage it some time in campaign anyway, particularly if you have a maxed Frantic Brute.

It's something you're gonna get sooner or later anyways so I don't see why not.

I'm pretty sure I know why it happens, and it likely has to do with switching servers.
your best bet would be to just restart the game before you begin doing your attacks. that's what I've been doing ever since I last had it happen to me and since then it hasn't shown up.

I have 30 mill on the main and 25 mill on the alt.  Maxed base means the money tends to stack up now.  particularly if I forget to buy "chance of legendary" cards in the factory.

At the top of the page, there is a drop-down menu "Information".  Hover your cursor over that and you'll see the second option in the list is about requesting to have your base disabled.  If you really want to proceed (against the advice of pretty much anyone with any nous on this board), that tells you how.  But please don't come back on here after you've done it complaining that it's X amount of time since you requested your base be disabled, - it will take as long as it takes.

This is exactly the problem, the rank 5 lock has INCREASED smurfing by tenfold.
I suggest removing the rank lock altogether and then the peeps who get "stuck" at rank 5 would no longer be the victims of high rank smurfs hanging at rank 4-5, getting beat around for 40 matches in a row. those losses would result in naturally going down ranks where they could actually compete again.
And peeps who don't like certain formats ( I hate 3vs3 and won't arena for the week if I get stuck there ) will not be stuck in that format.
